Principle
Ma — the void
A building devoted to the void: a thin roof floating over a raked gravel garden with an empty floor beneath.
What we really designed in Ma Pavilion is the emptiness beneath the roof. There are no walls, only a 9 cm roof and eight slender columns.
Visitors sit on the polished hinoki floor and look at the moss and stone garden. The building is a pause that frames the garden.
